Doing IT projects with Non IT Managers ???

Nowadays it could noted among business establishments, that several IT projects are carried out "in house" mainly for developing solutions and process automations. In such cases, these projects are come under CEOs, Directors or any other senior person of the top management of the company who has no enough knowledge in IT. ( In Sri Lankan cases, Finance Director/ Finance  Manager handles these IT projects). So IT professionals who are responsible for final delivery of IT solutions, should under reporting line of those senior managers who have very little knowledge of IT field. Though there are senior IT people (for example Head of IT), normally they become helpless in front of finance giants. This situation leads to put stress on the shoulders of IT guys who in bottom line. Thus IT guys in bottom line has many problems of dealing with senior managers. 

Biggest problem faced by IT guys is how to explain technical points to non technical people. Without getting the idea of basic points, how these projects would be successes? For example lets say new solution is being under developed for finance solution and suddenly finance manager wants to change field in interface. This is not easy task as structure of database is designed when the project starts and changing database structure is easy task.

Another point is that continuous change of requirements. This leads to change the solution again and again and sometimes requirements could not be implemented as they requested. This makes bad impression on project and project team.

Impossible deadlines are another problem, and due to this problem it could be noted that many IT guys are leaving their working places. Non IT managers think that IT guys can delivery final product within minutes. But the truth is far away and IT guys have to code, execute, test, if not work properly recheck and code again, test and etc. Like wise till final output is worked out, several rounds of works have to be done again and again. Delivering solution fulfilling all requirements not an easy task and Non IT managers are unable to understood this situation.

These are few pain points that could be seen when IT projects are handled by Non IT Managers and it could be stated that doing IT projects with Non IT Managers is a mess.
